Meals

Here are the interesting meals I have eaten in France with 5-star rating count;

  • Sept 3rd
    • dinner - @ Restaurant l'Authentic; gratinée flambée
        • flambée is like a pizza, with a very very thin crust, and cream rather than a pizza sauce. the gratinée had lardons (tiny cubes of bacon like ham), onions, and white cheese.
    • dessert - can't remember what it was called, but it was essentially a chocolate lava cake with a scoop of the most delicious vanilla ice cream.
      • 4 stars
  • Sept 4th
    • dinner - @ the Casal residence (my dad's manager); strips of boeuf (beef), Alsace sausages, tomatoes with a balsamic vinaigrette, mashed potatoes (really good!), baguette (of course).
      • 4 stars
    • baguette and fromage after dinner. Two different cheeses, cow and goat. Both delicious!
      • 4 stars
    • dessert - a tarte with prunes and bananas. (did you know that prunes are actually a fruit?! and not just a shriveled up version of a fruit. Prunes are shriveled prunes!)
      • 4 stars
  • Sept 5th
    • breakfast - toast with butter and framboise (raspberry) jam, bowl (basically a small bowl shaped mug minus handle) of cappuccino and framboise juice.
      • 3 stars
    • lunch - framboise Greek yogurt with fresh blueberries, and juice.
      • 3 stars
    • dinner - small quiche lorraine (egg, cream and cheese dish with ham in it). this, unfortunately, was refrigerated and reheated in the toaster oven...)
      • 2 stars
  • Sept 6th
      • lunch - @ Bretzel Burgard; malicette sandwich avec tomates et mozzarella ( a malicette sandwich has bread made from pretzel dough. It is about 5 inches long, and the outside is brown while the inside is fluffy. Just like a soft pretzel! My sandwich had tomatoes, mozzarella, oil and basil.)
        • 4 stars
      • dinner - salad with tomatoes and avocados, red and green grapes (red grapes DEFINITELY taste different...better!), and baguette.
        • 3 stars
      • cheese and baguette - goat cheese
      • dessert - a cookie thing mom and I got with our sandwiches at B.B. It was two, rather large, butter biscuit like cookies with Nutella thickly spread in between, a dollop of ganache and heavy sprinkle of powdered sugar on top.
        • 5 stars
      • dessert 2 (don't worry...I only had one)- Bonne Maman Tartelettes: chocolat noix de coco (small (literally, slightly bigger than a quarter) tartes with hazelnut chocolate on top and a thin layer of coconut underneath)
        • 5 stars
    • Sept 7th
      • breakfast - bowl of Crousty 3 céréales; noix de coco et pépites de chocolat (a cereal that has crunchies kinda covered in a thin layer of chocolate, with coconut shavings, hazelnut crispies, and chunks of chocolate) and juice
        • 2 stars (it would be better if the crunchies weren't chocolate)
      • dinner - @ chez Achard (Justine's house) - lamb (which I didn't eat), a dish with potatoes, green and red peppers, and tomatoes soaked in an olive oil and i looked like it was baked, frites (french fries), salad, baguette
        • 4 stars
      • cheese and baguette - they had the special cheese from the Alsace region, very stinky...very delicious. Although most people don't like it.
        • 5 stars
      • dessert - tarte fromage ("cheesecake"...there cheesecake isn't made with Philadelphia cream cheese. It's made with actual cheese (go figure). This one was made with a white cheese. Their tarte fromage is also very very fluffy and light, but creamy. It almost tastes like roasted marshmallows!)
        • 5 stars
    • Sept 11th

      • snack - macaroons and sirop grenade (evian water with pomegranate "grenadine" essentially)
        • 4 stars (I didn't like all the flavors we ordered, but the ones I did like were delicious!)
    • Sept 26th
      • breakfast - maxi pain au chocolat (an extra large "chocolate croissant")
        • 5 stars
      • lunch - croque monsieur (a classic french sandwich. it's essentially like a grilled cheese sandwich with ham, except that the cheese is on the outside, rather than the inside)
        • 3 stars (would have been better if it was warmer when it was served, and I'm not a HUGE ham fan, but it was still mighty tasty)
    • Oct 1st
      • lunch - pizza with tomatoes and mozzarella
        • 3 stars

      • breakfast - pain au chocolate (chocolate croissant), croissant, pain Veinnois (they call it a milkbread, but it's basically a roll), jam, jus d'orange, and chocolate chaud (hot chocolate)
        • 5 stars (the pain au chocolate was warm on the inside and the chocolate was all melted...mmm)
